Doctor arrested for Grand Prairie

GRAND PRAIRIE, Jan. 3 - According to NBC Channel 5 Dallas/Fort Worth, Dr. Swift, a doctor of osteopathy, may have been distraught following suspension of his medical license earlier in May, 2000. Police stated the doctor went to the the Baylor Medical Center in Grand Prairie, armed with two semi-automatic pistols, with the intent of shooting Dr. Jamie Niven. According to NBC 5, Dr. Swift practiced medicine with Dr. Niven in the early 90’s.

Swift apparently confronted Dr. Niven in the parking lot, pistol-whipped him around the head, and fired between five and seven rounds. From the same reports, Dr. Niven jumped into a nearby dump truck and avoided being hit by any of the shots.

Police arrested Dr. Swift without incident.

Commentary from The Doctor

Hospitals are traditionally places of healing, recovery and wellness.

  • Havens to which we trustingly commit our families and children.

  • Higher authorities to whom we look for secure, reliable and stable services to mend broken minds and bodies.


  • Hospitals are also places of terrible stress and uncommon challenges. The doctors and nurses, who work so hard to ensure our well-being, are equally prone to the everyday ailments and risks to which we are all subjected. Whether a breakdown is physical or mental, whether you are a hospital employee or hospital patient, we all expect and deserve protection from unnecessary danger and harm.

    For the sake of all people, I urge and stress the relevance of a better knowledge of individual strengths and weaknesses.

  • An illness cannot be cured until diagnosed.

  • An injury cannot be avoided until the danger is recognized.


  • If hospitals made greater use of Attitude Testing to better know whom they employ, fellow medical staff, patients, and communities could all enjoy a more certain future.
